This is one of our favorite places in Berlin. It’s just, actually really good. A brunch, lunch, and dinner restaurant serving modern European fare, Sorrel focuses on local/seasonal produce.
Their offerings change seasonally (with some classics remaining). The menu is well-curated, satisfying, and every item they offer that we’ve tried is delicious. Don’t get me wrong, this place is super Kreuzberg. But in the best possible way. This one actually stands up to the hype. I’ve come here a lot, and I can confirm, the quality has not diminished in the slightest. They are so consistent here.
The design of the cafe is bright, airy, and wood-paneled. Modern and classic, the interior is inviting. Outside there are big wooden tables perfect on a sunny day (just off the slightly busy Pannierstraße). This is more of a share plate spot, which we always prefer. Some favorite dishes: The Prosciutto di Norcia & Parmesan is excellent. Somehow we find it weirdly hard to find good olives in Berlin, but Sorrel has ‘em (delightful green Nocellara olives). Their roasted potatoes with Miso Mayo are absolutely addictive. They are crispy in all the right places. The Fennel salad is a creamy and crisp concoction that you’ve never tasted the like of. The mussels and nduja sausage served with sourdough is absurdly delicious.
We’ve never been for dinner, as it’s our go-to for brunch, lunch, and aperitifs on a sunny day, but I bet it’s awesome too. Drinks are just as good. Their natural wines by the glass are always a delight. Their coffee is lovely, including the decaf, and they advertise it as ethical from Fjord Coffee Roasters.
Hot tip: Try the kombucha, it’s slightly smoky and nothing like what you normally expect from a kombucha.
