If you’re looking to advance your brunch game to something other than your Berlin classic of sourdough bread and poached eggs, cozymazu is your spot!
Taiwanese Brunch at cozymazu centers around the beloved rice porridge dish Congee. Cozymazu offers several different congee options including a vegan pulled pork, a duck egg and sichuan pepper, a classic Rouzao pork with anise and cinnamon. It’s warming and spiced just how we like it. Warning: if you’ve never had congee, it is essentially a watery rice soup with exciting toppings for those whose palates are unprepared—we love it but it’s not for everyone.
An array of small plates are available to complete the set up. Some other options include the Youtiao — an addicting deep-fried savory donut, Luobo Gao (savory radish pancakes), and Nian Gao — an addictive chewy sticky rice-based dessert. For 2–3 people, you can also order one of the brunch menus to share and add a tea ceremony. If you're hungrier, just order more of whatever your stomach desires. :)
Tea comes with a traditional tea set-up and includes truly tiny adorable tea cups from which to slowly sip your caffeine fix . The atmosphere at cozymazu is truly cozy—living up to its name. The interior features clean lines and tastefully placed Taiwanese wall decor. Warm wood tones round out the experience, creating an intimate yet friendly and open breakfast setting.
We weren’t too impressed with the Taiwanese pancakes Congyou Bing, though. They came out a bit dry and left us with a “you could eat this, but you don’t have to” kind of feeling.
Conclusion: Brunch with a twist in an ultra-cozy setting and a no-bs food experience!
